Description Clotrimazole EP Impurity E (CAS No.: 5162-03-08) (2-Chlorobenzophenone) is used in the preparation of 2-Chlorotritylchloride resin and is also observed as an impurity in the production of Clotrimazole. Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antimycotic drug, and it works by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P450 3A enzyme, lanosine 14α-demethylase, which is responsible for converting lanosterol to ergosterol, the main sterol in the fungal cell membrane.
